Gutter installation can be performed in winter under the right conditions. Aluminum gutters can be fabricated and installed in cold temperatures as long as the fascia is accessible and work conditions are safe. If you have a failing gutter situation in winter, contact us — we will assess whether installation is feasible or advise on a temporary solution until conditions improve.

Gutters

Seamless Gutter Questions

A seamless gutter is a single continuous piece of aluminum custom-fabricated on-site to match the exact length of your roofline. Unlike sectional gutters that are pieced together from pre-cut lengths, seamless gutters have no joints or seams along the run — only at the corners and end caps. This eliminates the most common source of gutter leaks and produces a stronger, better-looking result.

Seamless gutters outperform sectional gutters in every key category: they have no joints along the run so there are no failure points that can leak; they are structurally stronger with no miters to weaken; they fit your home’s exact dimensions rather than being cut-to-approximate; they look cleaner on the home exterior; and they require less maintenance because debris does not catch at seams. The only advantage sectional gutters have is a lower upfront material cost, which is typically offset within a few years by the cost of repairs.

We install 5-inch and 6-inch K-style seamless aluminum gutters. Five-inch gutters are standard for most single-family homes in Western New York. Six-inch gutters are recommended for larger homes, steeper roof pitches, or rooflines with long uninterrupted runs where water volume at the eave is higher than average.

5K and 6K refer to the width of the gutter opening — 5 inches and 6 inches respectively. Both are K-style profile gutters. The 6K gutter has a larger capacity and handles significantly more water volume, making it the right choice for larger homes, steeper rooflines, and areas with heavy precipitation. Our team will assess your roofline during your free estimate and recommend the right size.

K-style is the most common gutter profile in North America. Viewed from the side, the back of the gutter is flat and the front has a decorative ogee shape that resembles crown molding. K-style gutters hold more water than round half-round gutters of the same width, making them better suited to the high rainfall and snowmelt volumes typical in Western New York.

We primarily install aluminum seamless gutters, which are the most popular choice for WNY homeowners due to their long lifespan, corrosion resistance, and wide color availability. Aluminum does not rust, holds finish well, and handles the freeze-thaw cycle better than steel. We also work with copper and galvalume for specific applications — contact us for availability and pricing.

We use screws, not spikes. Screws hold significantly better over time and do not loosen through WNY’s seasonal freeze-thaw cycles. Spike-and-ferrule systems were standard decades ago but the spikes work loose over time, causing gutters to pull away from the fascia. Every gutter we hang is fastened with hidden screws for a secure, lasting connection.

We use a 50-year sealant on all installations, applied at all end caps, miters, and outlet tubes. It creates a watertight seal that holds up through repeated freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or shrinking — far outlasting standard silicone-based products.

We offer aluminum gutters in a wide range of colors: Hi Gloss White, Lo Gloss White, Black, Brown, Musket Brown, Light Gray, Clay, Red, Cream, Wicker, Dark Gray, Bronze, Dark Green, Eggshell, and Ivory. Custom color options may also be available — contact us to discuss matching your home’s existing trim.

Most residential gutter installations in Western New York are completed in a single day. Smaller single-story homes may take as little as 2 to 3 hours. Larger or more complex jobs with multiple rooflines, gutter guard installation, or old gutter removal may take a full day. Your estimate will include a projected job time.

Yes. We offer old gutter removal as part of the installation process. Removal is priced based on the linear footage of existing gutters being taken down. During removal, we will also assess the fascia behind them — if it is damaged or rotted, we will identify it and discuss your options before the new gutters go up.

Properly installed aluminum seamless gutters typically last 20 to 30 years or more in Western New York conditions. Aluminum resists corrosion, handles freeze-thaw cycles well, and does not rust. Lifespan depends on installation quality, maintenance frequency, and the condition of the fascia they are mounted to. Gutters Plus backs all installations with a 15-year warranty on labor and materials.

In Western New York, gutters should be cleaned at least twice per year — once in late spring after tree seeds and early growth have fallen, and once in late fall after the leaves have dropped. Properties with heavy tree coverage, particularly pines, may need cleaning three or four times per year. Gutter guards can significantly reduce or eliminate this requirement.

Clogged gutters cause a chain reaction of damage. Water that cannot drain overflows at the edge, running down your exterior walls and pooling at the foundation. This leads to fascia rot, siding stains, foundation water intrusion, basement flooding, landscape erosion, and in winter — ice dams. In WNY’s climate, neglected gutters can cause thousands of dollars in structural damage within just a few seasons.

Ice dams form when heat escaping from the attic melts snow on the upper part of the roof. The meltwater flows down to the cold eave and refreezes, forming a wall of ice that backs water up under the shingles and into the home. While ice dams are primarily an attic ventilation and insulation issue, clogged gutters worsen them by preventing proper drainage when melt occurs. Clean gutters and proper soffit ventilation both play an important role in reducing ice dam risk in Western New York.

Gutter Guards

Gutter Guard Questions

Gutter guards are covers or screens installed over your gutters to prevent leaves, pine needles, and debris from entering the gutter channel. If your property has trees nearby — particularly deciduous trees or pines — gutter guards can significantly reduce or eliminate the need for annual gutter cleaning. They are a long-term investment that pays for itself in saved maintenance costs over time.

Gutters Plus installs two types of gutter guard systems: perforated guards and mesh guards. Perforated guards offer excellent water flow and work well for properties surrounded mostly by large-leaf deciduous trees. Mesh guards provide maximum debris protection including small pine needles, making them the better choice for properties with heavy tree coverage or nearby pines. Our installers will assess your property and recommend the right system.

Perforated gutter guards have small holes punched through a solid panel. They allow excellent water flow but very fine debris like pine needles may pass through. Mesh gutter guards use a fine screen that blocks virtually all debris including pine needles and shingle grit, but offer slightly reduced peak water flow. Both fit most 5-inch and 6-inch K-style gutters and are available for residential and light commercial properties.

Gutter guards dramatically reduce the frequency and amount of cleaning required, and in most cases eliminate it entirely. In areas with very heavy tree coverage, some occasional light maintenance may still be needed. Even in those cases, gutter guards significantly reduce the volume of debris compared to unprotected gutters.

Yes. Gutter guards help in winter by keeping debris out of your gutters so meltwater can drain freely. Clogged gutters are a major contributing factor to ice dam formation. Keeping gutters clear with guards reduces the standing water that refreezes at the eave and backs up under your shingles.

Soffits & Fascia

Soffit & Fascia Questions

A soffit is the material that covers the underside of your roof overhang — the area between the outer edge of your roof and the exterior wall. It provides critical attic ventilation, seals the roof cavity against moisture and pests, and creates a clean finished appearance on the exterior of your home.

Soffit ventilation allows fresh air to enter the attic from the eave, working with ridge vents to create proper airflow. Without it, heat and moisture build up in the attic. In summer this trapped heat bakes your shingles from the inside, shortening their lifespan. In winter it contributes to ice dam formation. Proper soffit ventilation is one of the most overlooked aspects of roof health in Western New York.

Signs that your soffits need replacement include: visible rot, cracks, or holes in the panels; evidence of animals, birds, or insects entering through the soffit; paint peeling or staining on the panels; shingles wearing prematurely due to poor attic ventilation; and soffit panels sagging or pulling away from the fascia.

Fascia is the vertical board that runs along the lower edge of your roofline where your gutters attach to your home. It is typically made of wood or wood behind an aluminum wrap. Fascia seals the gap between the roof edge and the exterior wall, provides the mounting surface for your gutters, and contributes to the finished appearance of your roofline.

Fascia rots because it sits directly behind your gutters and is constantly exposed to water from roof runoff, overflowing or leaking gutters, and WNY freeze-thaw cycles. Gutters Plus wraps all fascia installations in premium aluminum coil, which seals the wood from moisture and eliminates the need to ever paint or treat it again.

Signs that fascia needs replacement include: gutters sagging or pulling away from the house even after re-fastening; visible rot or soft spots on the board; fading, peeling, or missing aluminum wrap; recurring gutter separation; and water stains on the exterior wall below the gutterline. If your gutters keep pulling away, the fascia behind them has often already deteriorated to the point where it can no longer hold fasteners.

Yes. Every fascia installation we perform is wrapped in premium aluminum coil. This creates a durable, moisture-resistant surface that protects the wood underneath from the elements. Aluminum-wrapped fascia does not need to be painted, does not rot, and holds up to Western New York winters far better than exposed wood.
